On November 1, 2023, the Canadian Dairy Commission (CDC) announced the intention to increase milk component prices paid to producers by processors as well as an increase to the processor make allowance for butter. New milk component prices were subsequently approved by all ten provincial authorities on December 11, 2023.
In addition, the milk component price adjustment for May 1, 2024, as applied to the existing Class 3(d) milk component prices, will be updated to ensure consistency with the description of this milk class, which aims to reduce the cost of raw milk components to produce mozzarella by approximately 15 per cent based on an established mozzarella cheese composition. More information on this milk class can be found in the CDC’s FAQ section on Class 3(d).
The final milk component prices for Class 3(d) will be published on March 1st, 2024 and will be accessible on the Canadian Dairy Information Centre. All price adjustments will come into effect on May 1, 2024.
